The "right stuff" example of the fighter pilots teaches us that natural-born talent isn't always what makes someone "the best" at something. We have a tendency to believe that whoever looks good on paper and appears to have an unflawed record will be successful in taking on a challenging job. However, in reality, the "right stuff" is more so the content of the struggles that the individual has faced and worked through. These struggles, having been endured by the individual prior to facing newly similar struggles could be the factor that makes them more capable in the long run. Sometimes the most successful and talented people are the ones who've seen failure and worked through it, thus priming them for future challenges.
